William B. Newton
William B. Newton was born in DeKalb, Illinois and grew up in Cleona, Pennsylvania. He earned his undergraduate degree in international affairs from Georgetown University in 1995, where he concentrated on international law and European Studies. He interned at the American Bar Association. Mr. Newton then went on to law school at the University of Notre Dame, where he was selected for the Concannon Programme in international law and spent his second year of law school studying at Notre Dame's campus in London, England. He received his law degree in 1999. After law school Mr. Newton went on to to earn his M.A. in the year 2000 in Art Business at Sotheby's Institute in London, University of Manchester, where he focused on issues concerning art law. Along with Ashcraft & Gerel LLP Senior Partner, Mark Schaffer, Mr. Newton is co-author of a textbook (to be published in Fall 2008 by Matthew Bender Publishers) chapter on the litigation and appeals process in United States Defense Base Act claims. Mr. Newton resides in Washington, D.C. He became a member of the District of Columbia Bar in 2007, practices in Ashcraft & Gerel's DC office and is fluent in Spanish.
