Alaina Dartt

Alaina Dartt was born in Oregon, Ohio. She received her undergraduate education at the University of North Florida, where in 2002 she was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, with minors in Economics and French. During the period of her undergraduate education Ms. Dartt was awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Achievement Award in Political Science and Public Administration. In addition, she was elected to and served in student government at the University of North Florida.

Ms. Dartt’s legal education took place at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., where she was awarded a Juris Doctor degree in 2005.  While in law school, she became a candidate for and was elected to the position of Student Body President. She completed the program at Georgetown University Law Center’s Criminal Justice Clinic, a full year program in which students are provided an opportunity for intensive study and actual experience in criminal practice. In addition, she was selected to join the Barristers’ Council, Moot Court Division.  The Barristers’ Council at Georgetown University Law Center has for more than 70 years provided students at Georgetown University Law Center with opportunities and experience in honing their advocacy skills.  Students chosen to join Barristers’ Council receive intensive training to represent Georgetown Law at advocacy competitions.

After graduation and admission to the bar and prior to joining Ashcraft & Gerel LLP as a trial attorney, Ms. Dartt continued to hone her court room skills with extensive trial work over an almost 4 year period of time in the Office of the Public Defender in Fairfax, Virginia.  While there she became an effective court room litigator, handling criminal cases through all phases of pre-trial negotiation and litigation, trial, post-trial, and appeals on charges ranging from minor drug and larceny cases up to murder, rape, and robbery cases.  Ms. Dartt has tried over forty cases, many to juries, and she has handled four cases through the appellate courts.

Ms. Dartt practices out of Ashcraft & Gerel’s Alexandria and Manassas, Virginia offices.
