Ashcraft & Gerel, one of the leading personal injury law firms in the nation, has taken over the law practice of Tom Lane in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The high quality of legal service Tom Lane was known to provide to all of his clients and for which Ashcraft & Gerel is known to provide its clients, will be maintained.

We were deeply saddened by Tom’s sudden death on December 22, 2011. He was, during the early period of his career, a successful attorney at Ashcraft & Gerel, but more importantly, he was our friend and colleague. The following has been written about the life of Tom Lane:

“LANE, ANTHONY THOMAS, JR, 52, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011 from complications following surgery. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Thomas Lane, and he leaves behind Becky Lane, his beloved wife of 23 years, his mother, Mildred Lane, his sister, Cathy Lane, his three puppies and an entire legal community throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, all of whom mourn his passing. Tom was a 1987 graduate of the George Mason University School of Law and received his bachelors’ degree in government from George Mason University in 1984. He was recognized for his superior legal talents, integrity, and devotion to clients, by votes of fellow practitioners, in being named for many years in the Best Lawyers’ of America, Super Lawyers, US News Best Lawyers in Virginia, and US News Best Law Firms in Virginia. Tom represented for twenty-four years injured clients in obtaining Social Security disability and workers’ compensation benefits. He also acted as a mediator to assist in the resolution of contested issues prior to Workers’ Compensation hearings. He was frequently called upon to mediate cases by both plaintiff’s lawyers and defense lawyers. His fairness as an attorney, integrity, as well as legal skills kept him in high demand in the Harrisonburg-Richmond-Roanoke areas.”

Tom’s widow, Becky, who at one time was also a member of the staff of Ashcraft & Gerel, has now joined our firm and will be managing the Harrisonburg office. In this way, continuity of service to Tom’s former clients will be assured and we can continue to maintain the legacy of Tom’s successful law practice.
