You May Be Entitled to Compensation
You may have heard the news that vehicle manufacturing giant Volkswagen was caught cheating on air pollution tests in America. With secret software installed in many of its diesel vehicles, Volkswagen was able to pass strict emissions tests without actually producing cars that operated at the legal limit for emissions. The affected vehicles were manufactured between 2008 and 2015.
If you own or deal Volkswagen diesel vehicles, you might have been affected by the emissions scandal. Ashcraft & Gerel is happy to discuss your situation and review your claim during a free consultation. From there, we can determine whether you might be eligible for compensation.

The Source of the Scandal
For years, Volkswagen installed defeat devices in the electronic control modules of diesel vehicles. These devices allowed the vehicles to recognize when an official emissions test was being performed. On cue, the vehicle could switch to a cleaner operating mode, in which it reduced its emissions. Once the test was completed, the vehicle would switch back to its normal mode, emitting 10 to 40 or more times the legal amount of pollutants.
Raising Questions about Volkswagen’s Emissions
The U.S. EPA first issued allegations against Volkswagen in 2015 after independent researchers questioned the company’s diesel vehicles and their emissions. Volkswagen denied any wrongdoing until eventually admitting to installing the defeat devices.
Roughly 500,000 Volkswagen and Audi vehicles were affected, including the:
- VW Diesel Jetta
- VW Diesel Beetle
- VW Diesel Passat
- VW Diesel Golf
- Audi Diesel A3
