BIO

During his nearly 40 years as a litigator, James Green has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court, served as an active lecturer and author for both local and national Continuing Legal Education programs, and developed a substantial national practice with Ashcraft & Gerel that has led to hundreds of exceptional verdicts and settlements for his clients.

His reputation for integrity and professionalism is borne out by the fact that he has been appointed by the judges of various federal courts to serve on multi-district litigation committees handling product liability cases for prescription drugs including Fosamax, Rezulin, Zyprexa, and many more.

Mr. Green is driven by the fulfilling and gratifying experience of changing clients’ lives for the better. It is with this mindset that he tenaciously advocates for those who’ve been injured by the negligence of others.

Case Highlights

Mr. Green had the honor of appearing before the United States Supreme Court on two occasions to argue cases on behalf of injured persons.

Some of his most memorable cases come from early in his career, like the case of Halley Thomas, a Washington, D.C. resident who was injured on the job working for the Washington Gas Light Co. in Virginia. At that time, states like Virginia had very restrictive workers’ compensation awards, and people in Mr. Thomas’ situation were effectively barred from making claims against their employers for the highest benefits available. In a case that eventually went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, Mr. Green was able to clear a path for his client and all other workers like him to allow them to make claims in the most favorable jurisdictions where their employers operated. The Thomas case was a significant victory for injured workers’ rights across the country.

Outside the Courtroom

Mr. Green has been involved in numerous legal organizations in his nearly 40 years of practicing law, often in highly regarded leadership positions. He has held terms as National Chairman and Vice Chairman of Committees of the American Bar Association and American Association for Justice. He is currently National Co-chair of the litigation section on cell phone radiation of the American Association for Justice.

He is also an avid Washington Redskins, Nationals, and Boston Red Sox fan. He has served on the Board of Directors for the McLean Little League, in Virginia, for over a decade, where he had been its Executive Vice President, a team coach and selected to its Hall of Fame. He also served for 15 years as a coach in the National Champion SHAMROCKS Junior Olympic ASA girls fast pitch softball organization.

He is married and has three adult children, all of whom were Division I athletes in college.
