Over the past two years, Johnson & Johnson has been ordered to pay nearly 1 billion dollars in total damages to victims and their families who have been harmed by their talcum powder products.
(Alexandria, VA) In a recent case settled on Thursday, April 5, 2018, it was ruled that a New Jersey man developed mesothelioma, a deadly type of lung disease, due to the use of Johnson & Johnson products that contained asbestos. The latest case resulted in an award to the victim in the amount of $37 million.
“According to the court documents, Lanzo, a 46-year-old father of three, developed the very aggressive lung cancer after decades of daily use of familiar Johnson & Johnson talcum powder products, Johnson’s Baby Powder and Johnson’s Shower to Shower,” stated a spokesperson for Ashcraft & Gerel. “Steven and Kendra Lanzo, his wife and also a plaintiff in the case, were awarded $30 million and $7 million, respectively, in compensatory damages from Johnson & Johnson, as well as their talc supplier, Imerys Talc America Inc.”
Hundreds of cases are still pending across the nation against Johnson & Johnson and their talcum powder products. Johnson & Johnson continues to lose trials, and the number of talcum powder cases are growing.
“So far, lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson have alleged that their talc-based products have caused ovarian cancer, these claims brought mostly by women,” continued the spokesperson for A&G. “The recent verdict Thursday, however, is the first time a male plaintiff has gone to trial with claims of cancer caused by these products.”
This verdict may give way to other cases involving the deadly lung disease mesothelioma caused by talcum powder use.
